Blog 22: Hotels With The Best Pools

Whenever I stay at a hotel, I cannot wait to check out their pool. I do my research beforehand and mostly only book the hotel that has a great pool. Just like a man's shoes can tell you a lot about him, the pool can tell you a lot about a hotel!

For all you water-babies like myself, I have compiled a list of hotels with the best swimming pools around the world. Time to put that swimwear on and wade away to one of these hotels.

1- Incorporating heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, The Cambrian Adelboden, Switzerland guarantees you that a dip in their swimming pool, gazing at the snow-capped mountains on the other side of the valley, will leave you feeling rejuvenated, revitalised and more laid-back than a cat in a pool of sunlight. Feel pure Swiss bliss at the outdoor swimming pool hypnotically appearing as though it is flowing over its own edge to lead its occupants straight into the surrounding soaring mountains.

2- Majestic yet melting into the background, the heated outdoor swimming pool at the Omaanda by Zannier Hotels, Namibia offers a superb view over the Savannah from sunrise to midnight dip. Intriguing distinctive, this light up pool offers more than just a swim. Here guests can truly connect with nature, forget their worries and align their minds, bodies and souls. 3- Occupying less than a third of the total island, Six Senses Zil Pasyon is the sole resort on Félicité, Seychelles and has one of the most Instagrammable pools of all times. The main elevated pool has been built among the white boulders off the coastline overlooking the pristine sea and sand landscape. Each villa at the resort also has a private pool with floor lights that shine like stars at night. The spa at Six Senses is one of the best in the world, so make sure you sign up to their signature treatments as well.

4- 35 metres of infinity wet edge, a spa and some of the most breathtaking scenery in Australia are all at your doorstep at the Lake Argyle Resort and Caravan Park. On the edge of Western Australia’s border with the Northern Territory lies an out-of-the-way Eden for nature lovers—think crocodiles, freshwater tortoises, mountains, and a vast lake—that sets the ultimate scene for soaking in one of the best pools around the world. The lake isn't very close to the pool but the design and position make it appear closer. The scenery is perfect for a lazy afternoon swim!

5- The floating pool concept started with this iconic Lake Como hotel, Villa d'Este, built in 1568 as a cardinal’s residence. The heated pool of today came into being several years after the original first floated in 1966, and has stayed iconic. Just beware: It's all about the photo op for those with seasickness, since the sizable deck supporting the pool, jacuzzi and sleek frame of loungers does move! The hotel is stunningly beautiful, lined with artwork and was designed by Pellegrino Pellegrini called “Il Tibaldi”, a famous architect of the sixteenth century. I would say this a must visit if you're in Italy.

6- One of the many eye-catching elements of the über-artsy Joule Hotel is the 8 feet cantilevered, translucent, rooftop swimming pool, which hovers over Dallas’s Main Street. The heated pool designed by Adam D. Tihany gives the expression “hanging out by the pool” a whole new meaning. If this isn't enough to make you book a stay here, they have an exquisite on-site art gallery, a fleet of chauffeur driven cars to take wherever you want to go in the city and 4 penthouses that are worth the hype in this neoclassical building.

7- Look no further if you want to visit the largest swimming pool in the world. San Alfonso del Mar, Chile boasts of the Guinness World Record for a swimming pool that covers 20 acres (almost 15 football fields!) and holds 250 million liters of filtered Pacific ocean water. The pool has been built so close to the sea that the resort almost has 2 coastlines in one. The pool is plenty big for sailing—yes, sailing!—and endless other water activities like kayaking, scuba-diving instruction, a waterslide and more. Should you encounter a day of less-than-blissfully-perfect weather, it even has South America's only "roofed beach" housed in a glass pyramid-shaped pavilion, with temperate water and heated sand.
